The Hunter-England Cabin, built by John Hunter between 1832-1834 in the Choestoe area of Union County, is considered the oldest dwelling in the county. Constructed from poplar logs, the cabin originally featured wooden shutters over the window openings and a root cellar below the floor, typical of the era. Over time, weather boarding was added, and glass windows were installed. Following John Hunter's death in 1848, his daughter Harriet and her husband Daniel England took residence, which is how it came to be known as the Hunter-England Cabin. Visitors can explore nearby attractions like the Butternut Creek Trail and the heritage garden, as well as the Historic Blacksmith Shop, enhancing their experience of the rich history surrounding this remarkable cabin.
